What is Nature School?

We are a distinctive school that values the whole child. We respect and nurture each child's unique abilities and recognize the need for time outdoors, physical activity, independence, emotional support, and various learning activities. We encourage a sense of community and wholeheartedly support our families.

We combine Forest School and Montessori pedagogies while embracing elements from other philosophies that children naturally gravitate toward, such as loose parts, the arts, and handicrafts. We value nutrition and have a dedicated cook who prepares a nutritious, adventurous variety of delicious meals. We appreciate the use of natural art and crafting materials and seek inspiration and elements from the natural environment.

We invite children to be curious and brave, listen to their bodies, and engage in risky play activities, such as running at speeds, jumping and climbing, and building using real tools. We spend weekly hike days exploring the nearby RBG trails and local areas. Asking the forest permission to enter and walking with intention fosters respect and develops mindfulness.

We share time practicing outdoor sit spots, movement and breathing exercises, and grace and courtesy. Circle times can become scenarios for practising effective communication, resolution, self-expression, and self-regulation.

Our French teacher incorporates languages through enjoyable songs, games, and circles—musical instruments, rhythm activities, and circles round out our program.

Children spend generous time outdoors exploring and building in group games and activities based on nature themes. Free play and discovery allow children the time and space to explore their creativity.

The joy of finding the perfect tree.

Our curriculum is designed to provide children with authentic learning experiences that foster their skills and abilities. We believe in a children-centric approach where trained teachers observe each child's growth and tailor lessons and activities to support their strengths and interests.

Your child will not just be a student but a unique individual with their own exploratory journey.
